These 'Blue busts' are my exploration of the fear of losing loved ones and a way to confront the vulnerability we all experience. The imagery in these portraits reflects my contemplation of this fear, particularly during uncertain times. I was struck by the realization of how fragile life can be, and in these moments, I imagined those I hold dear no longer present. These photographs became a way of honouring and cherishing them, capturing the essence of their being in a way that transcends time.
These busts are of the people in my close orbit—those who have shaped my world and whose presence enriched me. Each image is composed as a sculptural bust, symbolizing remembrance and reverence for them while confronting the rawness of loss. With its inherent sensuality, the nape of the neck becomes a focal point in these works, embodying both intimacy and vulnerability and capturing the delicate beauty of the human form. The bust serves as a powerful, memorable object, frozen in time—a kind of visual death mask that celebrates beauty and acknowledges the fragility of life. Through this work, I address themes of love, sensuality, absence, and connection, illuminating the profound vulnerability that binds us all.
